Research
Florey Neuroscience Institutes (FNI) undertakes research in a number of basic and clinical areas that are aimed at developing better treatments for a range of neurological and psychiatric conditions. The FNI group of researchers make up the largest neuroscience research team in Australia, and FNI is one of the top 10 neuroscience facilities in the world.
FNI researchers take a ‘benchtop to bedside’ approach to research, where experts in basic research collaborate with clinicians to gain better outcomes for patients.
The major areas for research are:
- Stroke
- Epilepsy
- Dementia
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Huntington’s disease
- Motor neuron disease
- Traumatic brain and spinal cord injury
- Depression
- Parkinson’s disease
- Schizophrenia
- Addiction
- Brain function in health and disase
- Neuroimaging
- Discovery research
Neuroscience is one of the fastest moving areas of scientific research. Improvements in equipment, the sharing of data globally and the bringing together of clinicians and researchers means that great strides will be made in this field over the next decade.
